Paul I Homer MD director
drhomer@lowvisionsolutions.net

Dr. Homer has had a long and distinguished career in the eye care field. He received his M.D. Degree from the University of Illinois in 1976. He did his internship at the University of Miami and specialty training in Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. He furthered his education in retinal disease while doing a fellowship with Retina Associates and the Schepens Eye Research Institute, Harvard Medical School. He published a number of papers in the field of eye disease while in medical school and thereafter. He has been recognized in the Who’s Who of Ophthalmology. He was recognized by his peers “South Florida’s Top Doctors" in the years 1986 ,1997 ,1998 ,2000 and 2001. He has also been recognized in the Consumer’s Guide to Top Doctors as one of the “Top Doctors in America” in the category of Ophthalmology. Although the majority of his clinical career was devoted to general Ophthalmology , cataract surgery and laser surgery, his focus starting in 1992 was mostly on retinal diseases including macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. It was this involvement in these two diseases which are the number one and two leading causes of visual impairment in adults in this country, that lead to his current interest in visual rehabilitation . Service and professionalism in a caring atmosphere were his core priorities while he was in clinical practice and are continuing to be his highest priority in this new capacity. Dr Homer will be working as a consultant for those individuals with impaired or low vision and will not be replacing their regular provider of eye care.

When asked to write a biography about herself for the website she wrote the following, "I love working at the front desk because I love interacting with people. Through experience I know that just the little things I do to help someone who needs medical attention, can make them feel a lot better even if it is a little kindness that I have to offer and a smile."
