With low vision, ones eyesight cannot be improved with regular glasses, medicine or surgery. Multiple conditions lead to diminished vision. These include macular degeneration,diabetic retinal disease, glaucoma, and stroke. In these and other conditions, vision rehabilitation may be helpful at maximizing ones ability to use their existing vision most effectively and using resources that compensate for visual loss.

Some areas where vision rehabilitation can be effective include;
Reading using optical devices that magnify and improve contrast.
Computers with software that allows magnification of pictures, written images or in severe cases convert the written word into an auditory reading of the material.
Check writing
Cooking independently
Distant viewing
Shaving and applying makeup
Enlarged print such as calendars, clocks, watches
Directing to resources such as talking books, talking watches, timers and medical equipment
Helping with hobbies such as sewing or knitting and arts and crafts
Safer mobility when walking in familiar and unfamiliar environments
Large number telephone aids
Bold print markers for memos and shopping lists
